Cognate to Nagasaki へぐら hegura "soot (under cookware)"; Goto (Nagasaki) へぐら hegura and へんだ henda "soot (under cookware)"; Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Oita へぐろ heguro "soot; black residue"; Nakijin ぴんぐ pingu "grime; filth; soot (under cookware)"; Okinawan ひんぐ hingu "grime; filth"; and Yonaguni ひんぐ hingu "soot". Partly related to Shizuoka へすび【竈墨】 hesubi "soot"; and Fukushima へすび hesubi and へそび hesobi "soot (under cookware)".
