Etymology

Derived from the honorific prefix 【御】 o-, the noun 【日】 hi "sun, day", and the polite suffix さま【様】 sama. Cognate to the Kagoshima form おひさ・おひさあ【お日様・御日様】 ohisa ~ ohisaa "sun".

Notes

Ohisama is also the title of a Japanese drama that follows the life of a Nagano woman named Yoko Sudo through the Second World War.
