Etymology

Cognate to Okinawan くんだ kunda; and standard Japanese こむら【腓】 komura or こぶら kobura "calf of the leg". Attested for Okinawan under the spelling koonda "calf of the leg" in the 1818 Vocabulary of the language spoken at the Great Loo-Choo island in the Japan Sea, by Herbert John Clifford.
