Noun

  1. A wooden or bamboo structure, often conical or pyramid-shaped, placed over a tree or shrub (among other things) to protect it from heavy snow during winter.
  2. A wooded or bamboo structure, fence, wall or small enclosure placed along the sides of a house or building or over windows to protect them from heavy snow buildup during winter.

Etymology

Derived from ゆき【雪】 yuki "snow" and かこい【囲い】 kakoi "enclosure".

Notes

Yukigakoi are very similar to ゆきつり【雪吊】 yukitsuri, a conical structure consisting of a bamboo pole and ropes used to protect tree branches from breaking under heavy snow.
