First marked as a synonym of まさかり【鉞】 masakari "broad-axe" by James Curtis Hepburn in A Japanese-English and English-Japanese Dictionary (1872), page 301.
Notes
In comparison to most broadaxes, the よき yoki axe generally has a small head with a very long, protruding axe beard.
