Etymology

Based on the English name. Formed from しんじゅ【真珠】 shinju "pearl" and わん【湾】 wan "bay; inlet". The English name itself is based off the Hawaiian appellation Wai Nomi "pearl waters" (also called Puʻuloa "long hill").
