Etymology

Derived by compounding the polite Kansai ending やす-yasu onto the term  おいで【お出で・御出で】 oide, literally "(for) coming, being (here)". Related to the Western expression おいでませ【お出でませ・御出でませ】 oidemase and the standard construction おいでなさい【お出でなさい・御出でなさい】 oidenasai.
