かいんぐ・かいく゚・かいぐぅ

kaigu · kaingu · kainngu

Pronunciation: [kaiŋu]

Definition

Noun

  1. Egg; eggs

Etymology

Cognate to the now-archaic Japanese term かいご kaigo, meaning "eggs" or "eggshells". Ultimately derived from the now-archaic Japanese noun かい【 kai "eggs" (historically kahi < kafi) and the rendaku form of the diminutive suffix こ ko, which also happens to be used to denote eggs. Possibly derived from Chinese 【雞卵・鸡卵】 (cf. Min Nan ke-nn̄g and koe-nn̄g; Zhangzhou Min ke-nūi).
